Entry 102: Bender
This is Mike Bender, he's a teacher at the High School my wife and I work at. He's not that much older than me but he was teaching there while I was a student and has an old drawing I did very similar to this on his door, I decided I had to pimp my improvement in skillz for his cracka ass.

Entry 95: Darth Bane
I'm starting to get a better feel and shape to the character compared to yesterday. Here we have Yoda at three different periods of life, the elderly sage we all know, the hopeful and bright-eyed Padawan learner and the dark and terrible Sith Lord, Darth Bane. I came up with that name myself, I think he might have chosen something like that as he surely went over to the dark side to more fully understand it and then to redeem himself much like Luke did in the novels. "Bane" is chosen for the bane of his own light and goodness. I hope you like it.

Entry 94: A Young Green Jedi
I've always wondered what Yoda was like when he was a younger man. Was his hair always white? how high is the hair line on the younger members of his species? Most importantly, why does he seem to know so damn much about the dark side? Did the young Padawan Yoda flirt with darkness at one point? I'm gonna play with this idea a little more I think.

Entry 90: Jonathan
My favorite portraits are off the hip. I rarely pose someone for any kind of portrait unless I just have a crazy idea I can't get out of my head. So here's Jonathan, my sister-in-law's young cousin. He is in fact wearing my favorite hat. The ISO was too high on this one and I touched up the color in PS 3 a bit, other than that, a great candid shot.

Entry 88: Killpack and Smith: Doodle.
Add a little bit of Killpack and a pinch of Smith, bake at 1000 degrees for 7 minutes (in heaven) and whats the result? PURE, UNADULTERATED AWESOME SAUCE. There will always be more Killpack and Smith, because it's fun and Kyle and me do it for our own damn amusement, it makes us laugh. So, if you happen to be a fan don't worry. It might take forever, but there is always another crime to be solved in The City.

Entry 87: Carolina Waters
My back has been killing me every time I sit down this week, so I guess photography (which I can do standing up, lol)is becoming something of a theme. I caught this one this evening between James Island and Folly Beach, SC. I have about five other shots in the "Carolina Waters" series and with each one I try to catch a different aspect of the beauty of South Carolina waterways. Just some small color correction in Photoshop, aside from the framing of course, I hope you like it.

Entry 85: In Memorium
Mike Wieringo was a huge inspiration and influence for me as an artist. His drawings were always light-hearted and fun, not to mention incredibly well drawn. As I've gotten older, and have not yet found my place in the comics industry, I could always remind myself that Mike didn't get there until he was in his thirties. He'll live on for all of his fans and friends in the wonderful worlds of Illustration he left behind. My prayers are with those who were closest to him. Sleep well, say hi to Will Eisner and I hope they have great comics in heaven.
In loving memory of Mike Wieringo

Entry 77: A Lady of Honor
As you can see if you reference yesterday's piece, our lady knight does manage to salvage some of her original armor. I put her on a little bit of terrain in this one just so I could use the pose, and she's not really supposed to be left handed, I thought she might be ambidextrous, and maybe even use two swords at times instead of the shield, one of my original ideas was for her to be known as "The Queen of Blades" nerdy indeed.
You may have noticed that as of today, the headline has 80% more party and that I'm going to give my blog entries titles from now on,just for you. see ya tomorrow.

Entry 76
This feisty young lady was a character that I came up with in high school. Her story involved her being captain of a castle guard (a title inherited from her father) when the castle in question is suddenly attacked and destroyed after decades of peace. This girl is the only survivor. She appears here as she would have through-out the core of the series, the revenge part. her armor is rough and mostly salvaged and she is angry and covered in scars. She would have traveled the world seeking out the men responsible for the deaths of her family, friends and king, eliminating them one at a time. I also have a design from back then of her armor before the attack, which I plan to re-draw for my blog tomorrow, which I think will be the last in this series of artist's progress pieces.

Entry 75
I drew that first cowboy way back in '98 when I first started reading Stephen King's Dark Tower series. The idea of Roland Deschain really appealed to me at the time, especially the mysterious loner figure he was in the first book. The drawing wasn't really meant to be Roland, but was definitely inspired by him, so I made this new drawing (in the same half-finished state)a little more gaunt, a little less heroic looking. I think I'll definitely come back to the gunslinger at some point in the near future.

Entry 72
The older Bilbo pic was from around 1993 or 94, when I first read The Hobbit. In the newer version I wanted to show more of Bilbo's character and his inner struggle with his adventure. I have him looking back over his shoulder as he climbs through the mountains with a look that is half regret and half resigned enjoyment. I hope that comes across. I think I'll come back to this piece later and flesh out the background a little, it turned out pretty great :)
Entry 71
another progress piece like yesterday. The older version is from '97 when I was 16. I decided to put Fairchild here in her costume this time cuz it made more sense to me, and I think the head is better tucked under her arm. Her left leg is coming to far forward for the pose I think and I might go back and fix that. Look for another one of these tomorrow.
*edit*
I fixed her leg, but left the original post up :)
