HI! I'm Alex Smith,I'm a 28 year old illustrator, and this is my sketch blog. I started Sketch Party 2000 in April of 2007 with no real goals in mind. Soon after, it evolved into a daily ritual. I posted a sketch, photo, film, or some other piece of my art every day for a year. Somewhere in the middle of that year I went back to school, and if you start at the beginning and move toward the current entries you should be able to see that I paid attention in class. I hope you enjoy seeing them as much as I enjoy posting them, don't let this be your last visit. Updated Monday, Wednesday and Friday (and any other time I feel like it).

Entry 513 (59): Wonder Woman

For today, an Adam Hughes (and Lynda Carter) inspired Wonder Woman. I sketched this in photoshop, printed it then inked it with technical pens and my Pitt Brush tip pen. I originally was just going to gray-tone it but got carried away and spent a couple hours coloring it, hope you likes.

Entry 507 (53): Randomly Generated

This was part of a meme going around Face book and I just kinda like it. 20 mins. in Photoshop CS3.

Original meme content:
1 - Go to "wikipedia." Hit “random”
or click http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
The first random wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.

2 - Go to "Random quotations"
or click http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four or five words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first album.

3 - Go to flickr and click on “explore the last seven days”
or click http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days
Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

4 - Use photoshop or similar (Download PS alternative Artweaver for free here: http://www.artweaver.de/index.php?en_version or you can use windows Paint if you're nasty) to put it all together.

5 - Post it to FB with this text in the "caption" and TAG the friends you want to join in.

Entry 502 (48): Genitalia!

I made a fancy new wallpaper today, a tribute to a fine Canadian citizen: singing comedian Jon Lajoie. I can't really explain why I find this so funny, its not even his funniest song (that would be Stay at Home Dad or Everday Normal Guy) I just found the idea of this wallpaper hilarious and I wanted to make it.

Entry 501 (47): Huge Dome Color test

I'm doing this drawing in prisma-color on Mi-Tientes also. This is a goofy practice that kind makes me look like an ape, but the colors are coming along pretty nicely.

Entry 499 (45): Marino 2

Slight shift from yesterday. I'm still not sure how simple I want to go with this, but my gut says the simpler the better.

Entry 498 (44): Marino

Still working on my Marino's logo. This is starting to look nice and it was damned fun to draw.

Entry 497 (43): Logo Designs (more)

This project is still going, we start work on the final project next week. I'm still going with the gangster at this point. I need to make some tweaks to the idea however, because I can only use one color aside from black in the final design. Sketches to come.

This is the second attempt at the self-portrait reflected from a mirrored globe. WIP, still a couple hours left on this.

Entry 493 (39): Satirical Wallpaper series

I based these on a series of t-shirts that were mildly popular several years ago. The originals designs had things like guitars, surfing, classic cars, trucks, etc. I thought it would be fun to playfully exploit the less cheery side of our great nation with these more than slightly tongue-in-cheek designs. If you'd like a wallpaper version of any of them let me know I can easily re-size to whatever screen res you prefer :)

Entry 492 (38): She-Hulk Painted

I decided to do a version of this in the Fantastic Four uniform, and then decided to go ahead and make it a full digital painting with no ink lines. Enjoy.

Entry 491 (37): Orb Portrait take 1

It's damned hard to get a photo or scan of a pencil drawing that looks as good as the actual piece. Even though this looks much better in person I still think I'm going to start over, make sure both sides of my head look right, and fix my goatee. I do really like the expression on my face. I'm also thinking that if I can find a larger reflecting globe this will be easier :)

Entry 490 (36): Logo Thumbnails

The last two posts from this project were essentially type studies. Now, I'm working on thumbnails for a more finalized, professional looking logo for an Italian restaurant. I like the mafia guy at the top best so far.

Entry 489 (35): Practice

My next project in my drawing class is a self-portrait from a reflection in a small silver globe. For a warm-up we drew the person sitting across from us and tried to mentally skew the anatomy. I think the top of his head should be smaller, but its not terrible.

Entry 488 (34): Logo Designs II

the final version of the other day's post, now with a better image (and more designs) for your viewing pleasure.

Entry 487 (33): Stationary set comp

I have to come up with a business card and letter-head for my exit portfolio class, and this is my favorite idea. These would keep the notebook paper look and I'd even punch the holes in them. I'll probably do a design for plain white backgrounds as well, more to come.

Entry 486 (32): Logo Designs

Doing some logo design exercises in my Illustrator class, sorry the image is so small.
