Entry 609: Getting used to a face

When I start working on an illustration, especially one that includes the likeness of a real person I do a lot of roughs and thumbnail work. These sketches were to help me get used to drawing this guy's face, and also to decide how much of a caricature/cartoon it should be.

Something I'm working on, a ronin. the object on the bottom of the page is his wakizashi wrapped up in cloth. Itried to make him look a little gaunt and strung out, but I think I can make that more obvious.
