HI! I'm Alex Smith,I'm a 28 year old illustrator, and this is my sketch blog. I started Sketch Party 2000 in April of 2007 with no real goals in mind. Soon after, it evolved into a daily ritual. I posted a sketch, photo, film, or some other piece of my art every day for a year. Somewhere in the middle of that year I went back to school, and if you start at the beginning and move toward the current entries you should be able to see that I paid attention in class. I hope you enjoy seeing them as much as I enjoy posting them, don't let this be your last visit. Updated Monday, Wednesday and Friday (and any other time I feel like it).
With the magic of Photo-shop, I can take these doodles and (when I'm finished) drop them in to the existing image to fix it without re-drawing or doing a lot of erasing. Isn't technology fun?
I've been wanting to draw this character since I saw the preview images for DC's Countdown months ago. I think it turned out pretty bad ass, especially since I was really trying some new techniques :)
I'm redesigning a character I designed for someone when I was in high school and this is what I have so far. Don't steal it, cuz you'll get a nice suing, but enjoy looking :)
I've been working on this for about a week now. The project is to re-design a book cover and I chose this because aside form being a guilty pleasure of mine, this book has had the same cover design since 1977. sad. I'm pretty pleased do far :)
I've worked with the pencils a little more here, and I'm starting to get a better feel for them. Hopefully when I can use more than Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black I'll get even better results :)
So we have to use prismacolor pencils in my illustration class on our next project and this is my first practice piece. I've never really used them before, and whats more is we were supposed to re-create the CMYK four-color process with this sketch, it needs work, lol.
I snapped this today of my dog, Charlie. I've had him for eight years now, and anyone who's met him can tell you that I managed to get the quintessential Charlie photo with this one.
I got a new toy today: A Wacom graphics tablet :) I tried a little digital inking over my rough pencils, and while it's going to take practice, I'm pretty excited about it it, especially when it comes to digital colors. I also included a nifty photo of it so you can check it out.
I'm still Learning flash and this is my first attempt at tracing a character from a drawing into flash format. I'll be working on it some more to be sure.
